Catches what gets covers rejected

The most common KDP rejections are wrong full-cover size, missing bleed, low resolution, and fonts that aren’t embedded. Pass-Check measures every one against your exact book and tells you how to fix it — here’s a real report on a trim-sized file:

  • Full-cover size matches the exact dimensions for your trim, paper, and page count
  • Bleed (paperback) or wrap (hardcover) is present on every edge
  • Resolution is at least 300 DPI at the printed size
  • All fonts are embedded (PDF)
  • Color space is print-ready — CMYK preferred, RGB flagged
  • It's a single flattened page (PDF)
  • File size is within KDP's 40 MB recommended / 650 MB hard limits

KDP will likely reject this

At least one hard requirement isn't met. Fix the items below and re-check.

my-cover-6x9-300p.pdf (sample)

  • File format

PDF — the format KDP wants for a print cover.

  • Single-page PDF

One flattened page (back + spine + front).

  • Full-cover size

    Found 12.676″ × 9.000″; KDP needs 12.926″ × 9.250″ for a 300-page 6×9″ paperback.

Fix: Resize the document to exactly 12.926″ × 9.250″.

  • Bleed present

File is trim-sized — the 0.125″ bleed is missing on every edge.

Fix: Add 0.125″ bleed on all four sides (final size 12.926″ × 9.250″).

  • Resolution

    Vector / text PDF — resolution-independent.

  • Fonts embedded

    1 font(s) not embedded: Helvetica.

Fix: Embed all fonts, or convert text to outlines before exporting.

  • Color space

RGB. KDP accepts it but prefers CMYK; colors may shift on press.

Fix: Convert to CMYK and flatten transparency for predictable print color.

  • File size

    9.0 MB — within KDP's recommended ≤ 40 MB.

  • Spine text

Spine is wide enough for text (300p, spine 0.676″).

  • Barcode area

Leave a 2″ × 1.2″ clear area at the bottom-right of the back cover for KDP's barcode.

One purchase. Two ways to work.

Frequently asked

How does Cover Pass-Check know if my cover will pass KDP review?
It reads your finished file in the browser and compares it to KDP's published spec and the exact dimensions for your trim, paper, and page count — full-cover size, bleed/wrap, resolution, embedded fonts, color space, page count, and file size. It reports each as pass, warn, or fail with the fix. It verifies the file's measurable properties; your artwork and KDP's own review are still yours to own, so a green report means the dimensions and spec are correct, not a guarantee of acceptance.
Is my cover file uploaded anywhere?
No. The entire check runs in your browser — the file never leaves your device and nothing is stored on a server. It's the same privacy-first approach as the free calculator.
What's the difference between Author and Studio?
Author ($19) checks one cover at a time — perfect for a single book launch. Studio ($49) adds batch mode: drop a whole folder of covers and get a worst-first pass/fail table with CSV export, built for publishers shipping many titles.
Do I get a refund if it doesn't help?
Yes — a 7-day, no-questions-asked refund through Gumroad. Email your receipt and we'll process it.
